For the first six years of my marriage to Derek, the desire to have children was on the back burner. We wanted kids someday, but we were focused on other dreams.

For 364 days a year, I was largely unaware of any ticking biological clock. But, March 19th was a different story. On my birthday every year, I could hear it loud and clear. And, my biological clock never said “tick tock.” It was much more ominous with its “what if” questions.

“What if you can’t get pregnant?”

“What if you wait too long?”

“What if you never get to be a mother?”

I spent many a March 19th with a cloud of worry hanging over my head.

So, while I guess some people struggle with milestone birthdays, I’m full of nothing but joy on this the 35th anniversary of my birth. I am a mother. Years of birthday candle wishes have come true.

There has been pain in the journey, and I have earned every wrinkle that adorns my aging face and hands. But, I am free from the weight of those “what if” questions!

Today, on my birthday, I thank God for my two kiddos in heaven, the sweet girl who helped me blow out my candles and the baby boy in my womb who happily did somersaults as I indulged in a cupcake.

I am so grateful for my wishes come true, and the way they light up my life. A happy birthday indeed!

What birthday candle wishes have come true for you? Do you enjoy your birthday or dread it? Tell me all about it in the comments!
