Best of 2011 – Yoga
I love the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s like the world universally agrees to slow down. Traffic is light. Many people take vacation from work. Naps are added to daily routines. And, we can all take a deep breath.
I’m doing just that and taking the week off! But, I thought I’d leave you with some of the most popular posts of the year in each Intention category.
Each year, I give up my active practice the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Instead, I practice only restorative poses.
If you need a little nudge, all you have to do is look outside to nature’s example. This season of dormancy is an essential precursor to the beauty of spring.
Join me in giving yourself the gift of rest this week. Set aside your active practice for the week, and enjoy a restorative one. This is my favorite restorative practice:
- Basic Relaxation with the Legs Elevated (5 – 10 minutes)
- Supported Bridge Pose (5 – 8 minutes)
- Reclining Twist Pose (3-5 minutes per side)
- Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose (8 – 10 minutes)
- Reclining Bound Angle Pose (10 minutes)
- Savasana (20 – 30 minutes)
When you discover the power of rest that you remain awake and alert to enjoy, maybe you’ll make a New Year’s Resolution to enjoy it daily!
