Hard is Not Bad

Hard is Not Bad

Mud. Thick, sloppy, gooey mud. For much of the last two months since LM's birth, it feels like I've been existing in mud. It's not that I can't cook, clean, take care of my kiddos, play, do laundry, exercise or work. It's just that It. All. Feels. So. Hard. I have had no trouble falling head over heels for Little Man. I delight in him and his amazing older sister. Loving them is so easy (just look at them!). Cherishing them is effortless. Changing diapers, giving baths, walking to the playground - that…Read more

Work Shift: Review and Giveaway

Before having children, I worked more than full time. In fact, I worked all the time. I was a tax director at a Big Four public accounting firm AND the co-owner and head yoga instructor of a martial arts and yoga studio. Between the two jobs, I regularly worked 80-90 hours a week. Thankfully, my husband worked at both places with me. For the first eight years of our marriage, there was little distinction between work and family. Our burnout began before her arrival, but AE's birth gave us both the motivation to…Read more
My Cobblestone Journey

My Cobblestone Journey

I remember the first time I rode in a car over a cobblestone road. The loud rumbles made as our tires rolled over the bumpy terrain filled my wee soul with giddy glee. My dad talked with excitement about the history of the road. As I looked out the window, I was amazed by its beauty. ***** I’ve been on a bit of an unplanned blogging break since Little Man’s arrival. I dropped in to tell his birth story and something else I never expected to share on the interwebs. But, my time…Read more

LM’s Birth Story – Part Two

Today I’m sharing LM’s birth novel story. You can read Part One here. Somewhere around 11:30, my awesome midwife came in. She said we would see how things went for the next 12 hours. She said I should walk and do everything I could to really get things moving. She was cautiously optimistic about my chances for a successful VBAC. Then, she said she wanted to check the baby, to confirm he was head down. As she reclined the bed back, LM's heart rate dropped. Another nurse came rushing in and things got…Read more

LM’s Birth Story – Part One

As strange as it may sound, I spent more than three years preparing for Little Man's birth. AE wasn't even a month old when I began researching. I wanted more children, but I was worried about the potential risks to me and my future babies of accumulating cesarean births. So, I began planning for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). We waited the recommended two years before even trying to get pregnant. When I happily saw two pink lines on a pregnancy test shortly after AE's second birthday, I returned to the physician…Read more
